Mindfulness in education is a big topic right now.

And for good reason. There’s a huge need for mental health support right now, as well as the societal need for self-aware, compassionate, creative, empowered, emotionally intelligent individuals.

The education system getting shaken up right now, to say the least. Yet it’s also been long overdue for reform, as many know.

That makes now the perfect time to upgrade education in many ways, from the settings, structures, and what is actually taught. And one of the most important things to incorporate in education is mindfulness.

Mindfulness is essentially a state of conscious awareness, or noticing. It’s such a simple concept, with such profound and wide-reaching benefits. It’s also a practice that can be included in education in many ways to help create a better world.

This is an essay/proposition that I recently published. It’s a comprehensive starting point for implementing mindfulness in education, as well as some context as to why it’s so important for humanity right now.

2) Free Mindfulness Class For Kids

Mindful Schools provides an entire mindfulness course for children. It’s a great resource for teaching children mindfulness, especially in a homeschool environment. If you’re a teacher, you can draw from that course for your own inspiration.

3) 51 Mindfulness Exercises for Kids in the Classroom

This is a master list of mindfulness exercises for kids. There are some great ideas here that will spark your own ideas. Whenever you want to keep kids occupied while simultaneously teaching them mindfulness, pull out one of these exercises.

Another great resource with mindfulness exercises. This one has less exercises, but the descriptions are more detailed.

5) Mindfulness for Teens

This is an awesome resource for teaching mindfulness to teens. If you work with teenagers (or parent them), definitely check this one out.

As the titles says, this articles goes over the best practices for mindfulness in education. It will help you create a more mindful culture in any educational environment.

The Mindfulness in Schools Project is an organization dedicated to bringing mindfulness into schools. They provide a lot of resources on their site to support mindfulness in education.
